Contract-based pension

Types of pensions

Contract-based pension schemes are those where a contract between the individual and the provider (typically an insurer, asset manager or other pension provider) governs the pension scheme.

All contract-based schemes are defined contribution.

All personal pensions are contract-based while employer schemes are normally trust-based (though group personal pensions arranged by employers are also contract-based).
